Time won´t wait for you

None can feel the gap and empty place at home while you are not there.

Most of us spend our lives salvaging someone else’s projects and dreams, while ours are quietly on the side. We are paying attention to ensure that all deadlines are met, targets are hit, emails are answered. At the same time, there is something more important and that is being neglected. We’re talking about our family and our mental health. Your company doesn’t need you as much as the people waiting for you at home do. You’re missing your time with them, kids grow, and you are not there. Because another target should be hit, there is a competition you would like to win. Finding a new goal for your company. All that is done for someone else’s business.

While your loved ones are waiting.

At work, everything feels urgent. Meetings and results are filling up the calendar, but most of the important ones are not on that list. Because you don’t see them, until they are gone.
The number of dinners left before the kids grow up and move out, quiet mornings with your partner before you become two strangers sharing the same hallway. The limited weekends you have left, while you still have energy to enjoy. Time is being spent, the only question is how and where it is going. While you are investing your time in someone else’s goals, your asset is slipping away. And unlike money, this is a loss you can never recover.

Life balance isn’t about doing less but about choosing what matters most. If on Friday night or the weekend you are unable to close your laptop or keep checking your work emails on mobile app, this isn’t act of loyalty. It’s a message, simple signal to show people you love the most that their presence is a lower priority than task what can wait until you are at work.

We keep forgetting that there are boundaries and acts of respect. When you are sitting at the meeting, you keep your phone away or face down to show respect. When your kids are trying to have a conversation, you check your phone couple of times. What is so important? Your company won’t remember that late mail you have sent or spent extra hours at work. But your family will remember that you weren’t there.

Keep in mind that if you disappear from your work tomorrow, your role would be replaced. Business is a machine they will move on, with you there or not. None can feel the gap and empty place at home while you are not there. None can replace you. It is time to find your priorities, stop treating your family like a side project, and your job like a legacy.
